This afternoon I was finally able to record my first audio for the Podcast. After consulting with the drag artists I was interviewing, we decided to use the platform Anchor.
“Anchor is a free platform for podcast creation. It is a beginner friendly platform. It contains tools that allow users to record and edit audio, arrange it into podcast episodes, publish podcasts to listening platforms, and monetize content by collecting listener contributions or adding advertisements into episodes.” (Wikipedia, 2021).
Before recording I made sure all interviewees filled the consent form out beforehand, so that each artist knows what is expected of them and with this being the first attempt of recording, we all didn’t necessarily know what to expect.
In our first recording we had 3 drag performers from Sussex Universities Drag Society to talk about each individual's drag, what their responsibilities were in the society committee and to give the listeners an overview of what Sussex DragSoc is. Our first recording lasted 47 minutes which went over my 30 minute aim of my podcast series but overall the audio came out pretty decent considering using our phone audio.
I’d really recommended using Anchor to anyone who is interested in starting a podcast and doesn’t want to pay loads of money, trying it out.. It even helps publish your podcasts episodes onto our sites such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts for you.
However next time I record a podcast, I am going to aim to keep it to the point and try and stay on top of to the key discussion spoken, also as we were using phone audio and not being able to see when one another speaking, at times we were over talking one another, so for next time I am going to try and keep it to a menial 3 speakers instead of 4 as it just seemed like too many people talking at once.
After I had converted the audio ad edited the access white noise moments by using Adobe Audition, I then converted it back to Anchor and put one of their intro sounds and published it via Anchor.
Next podcast I’d be recording is Lazy Susan, who I’m super excited about.
